WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE?

Acupuncture is an integrated medical approach focused on correcting imbalances in the body. Throughout Asia acupuncture has been used traditionally to prevent, diagnose and treat disease, as well as to improve general health. Today, acupuncture is widely recognized as an important component of holistic modern medicine. The use of acupuncture techniques, herbal medicine, and Chi Kung exercises to ensure energy flow and whole body interaction are keys to diagnosing all physical and mental maladies.

Acupuncture was first popularized in the United States in the 70s when President Richard Nixon opened relations with China. At the time, famed New York Times reporter James Reston had an emergency appendectomy in a Chinese hospital that was successfully treated post-surgery with acupuncture in place of pain killers.

The goal of acupuncture is to promote and restore the balance of energy, which flows throughout the body. The benefits of acupuncture can extend to a wide variety of conditions, from emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression to digestive complaints and pain syndromes due to an injury or associated with chronic degenerative diseases.
